Very Good Legal Ruling for Generic Domain Name Registrants
"Everyone should have the right to accurately describe what they are offering. I am thankful that the Judge agreed and ordered that the travel agency's trademarks be struck from the registry so that it does not enjoy an unfair monopoly." - Peter Maxymych
Say what you will about Canadians living in igloos etc.. but they do not take legal bullying lying down. "Cheap tickets" tried to unseat the registrant of the corresponding domain name, so the domain owner sued to have their mark struck from the register. I would have done the exact same thing. We need more US name registrants to clean up nonsense marks like this at the USPTO south of the border. There has to be equity. If you can't register cocacola.com (logical), then over-reaching IP counsel shouldn't be able to bully you out of a generic like cola.com.
Thanks for the kind words! It was a very tough fight but there was no way we were going to give up this generic domain name. It was good to find out that trademark law doesnt just protect tradmeark owners but domainers as well. You can read a copy of the decision at www.DNattorney.com.

Too bad that this case is in Canada. CheapTicket.com lost to CheapTickets.com in US.
***FS*** That sucks.. take it to court in the jurisdiction of the registrar.
