While I do believe we are hurting our environment in ways that will have repercussions, ethanol is *NOT* the answer. I wish politicians would stop talking about it being the solution - we simply do not have the supply to meet an adequate demand. Not to mention how much of an effect it has on food prices.
But 200k+? Yeah I would still agree it will go for that much :)
***FS*** Brazil is energy independent thanks to ethanol.. If they grew crops faster in the US, (greenhouses) it could be done there. It would take a Marshall Plan, but could be done.

Franky - yes Brasil is.
The thing with ethanol is that unlike oil, it isn't just a 'gain' - you lose greatly when it comes to food. So while it may work for Brasil, there are three big differences:
1. They have a lot of corn. Few countries can claim that.
2. Their energy consumption is far less than the US or Europe.
3. Again - using oil does not take away from an immediate need (food). People are already starting to whine about food prices and the lavish subsidies the government is giving to corn.
I prefer to not really believe anything a politician says. And my own research shows that while ethanol is nice and all, it is *not* a (long-term) solution. With people starving, it becomes even harder to justify.
Could a Marshall-ish-Plan work? Perhaps. But I don't think people have the stomach, fortitude, patience, or even vision to let something like that work.
Personally I think we have a lot to gain from bio- and re-using energy (eg leaps allowing us to re-use nuclear waste - the amount of waste left is 0.1% the original waste).
Sorry - starting to rant :) Still think Ethanol.com will go for a while, and it has very applicable niche markets.
***FS*** Good rant Ahmed. Your rants are always welcome here. :)

Well if they used hemp for ethanol instead of corn, it wouldn't compete so much for the food market. And interpersing corn and hemp crops, and rotating them, would reduce fertiliser and insecticide requirements and be healthier and improve farm management.
And as all good domainers know, hemp grows like, well, WEED!
Dude.
