Myspacetv.com not Myspace.tv
Jeff sends link.. (thanks bro!) :
"Myspace TV ....yawn
btw myspacetv.com not myspace.tv
http://news.com.com/8301-10784_3-9735961-7.html "
Would not have expected this from Richard Rosenblatt's former alma-matter, given he's relaunching the .TV namespace through demandmedia.com
It will work because Myspace is already a brand. But there is no inherent value otherwise to go with ...tv.com over .tv. The .tv name appears better, easier to remember and if you polled the populus they would pick the easier to remember .tv. I would understand if the question was video.com versus video.tv because of the type-in traffic.

Don't get me wrong .com is mainstreet in the cyberworld but it is wrong to think that no top companies have .tv in their future plans.

Looks like these examples you cited there IS a definate plan: "Protect our marks by registering the TV and forwarding to our dotCOM." Smart move.

.TV is the extension for online video. At Qoof.com we have seen traffic continue to grow for some of our 600 top .tv names. Automotive.tv is one that we are using DemandMedias tools for, but we have big development plans for .tvs like Laptops.tv, opportunity.tv, GiftShop.tv etc..
More and more of these type of sites are being luanched each week.

I dont know why this is all that surprising in regard to myspace not using dot tv as their url. Fox owns it and if you read the article, they are launching something similiar... makes sense! why give your competition an audience that most would not be aware of.

Since I am often critical (from a business sense purely asking "xcan you attract enough viewers regularly to justify a profit)... here's a good example of doTV at work:
http://www.kab.tv/eng/?lang=eng
Community of interest/subscription-based model
Ironically Kabballa uses mostly dotInfo domains but like most smart companies they cover themselves with multiple avenus of customer reach and multiple extensions and forward them to a landing page that delivers more precise content

Richard,
It is good to see others developing .tv properties. I am developing 4-8 per month. Please contact me via email I would like to hear more of what you are doing. Here are some of my sites, menswear.tv, tietheknot.tv, rvcampers.tv, kidsclothes.tv.

.tv as a "video" extension? what happened to .tv for TV? And how video and .tv are related? I mean, if they are marketing videos, why not .vid? Or if they are marketing interactivity, why not use .in? But .tv for videos? Is it just me or or something doesn't add up here?

Verisign needs to rethink the .tv renewal setup. the current setup is garbage. If they want the extension to flourish, and I feel it has great potential, then they need to do away with the premium renewal fee's. They could still hold the premium names, make a major pr announcement and auction them off to the highest bidders with a reserve. The expired premiums that drop, they could still catch it and auction them off. They need to get feedback from the pros like frank, the dnjournal editor, etc. Richard should convince Verisign that it would be best for the extension, otherwise Demand Media should cut ties with it.
Also the me.tv setup I don't feel will work because its doubtful a large segment of the target audience will fork over $25 per year for a personal webpage when they can get it free everywhere else. They should rethink the idea, maybe create something similar to YouTube at me.tv. Me.TV is a good name for it, add more features, make a points system, give away prizes. Target college's and schools, popular forums, come up with a cunning marketing plan to start the viral effect. I don't think Youtube or MyspaceTV.com has to be the only dominant players in this area. Myspace using myspacetv.com rather than myspace.tv should be considered a direct challenge to Richard. Even if it is not a challenge, they should consider doing it.
