Why are domain names important to the future? I get this question all the time. In the future, won't we just go to Google (or something like Google) and find exactly what we're looking for right away? Yes and no. The truth is that we don't always know what we're looking for. The mind is incredibly complex. You may search for "antique furniture" when you really want some table linens to go with Grandma Patty's silverware, all while you're sitting in your cubicle at work and you 'really' should be booking a sales trip.
The search box is our front door, but it often takes three or four exploratory searches to get satisfaction.
The next phase of the Web's development is colloquially being referred to as Web 3.0. This article describes Web 3.0 in the following way:
"The best way to sum up Web 3.0 is to say that, in the future, everything will be smart. No longer will you need to go to several web sites to research flights and fares, then book your own ticket with your credit card information on a particular site. In Web 3.0, you’ll just send your software agent on a mission to watch for and book a flight that meets your criteria at the best price (and at the last possible second, giving you more flexibility than you had before)."
Wow.. so if this world really comes to be, won't domains be less important? From another article:
"SAIC is putting a consortium together that is building a newfangled dynamic Semantic SOA Solution (SSOA) on a recovery-oriented Service Fabric. It is supposed to be self-assembling, self-healing, self-managing, self-scaling and self-auditing, apparently limiting humans to just throwing the switch."
I hypothesize that domain names are going to be much more important in the Web 3.0 world, because every time people explore a domain name, they are effectively throwing a switch. The domain name will become the front door interface and every type-in (or even the potential for a type-in) is a user exploring (or the potential for exploration). Web 3.0's semantic and artificial intelligence will free users to explore portions of the web they never previously thought to go to. This will be the equivalent of the remote control "and" the advent of cable in the TV world. No longer will users have to get off their butts to change that dial from channel "G". Now users can click from their sofa and easily explore a universe of channels they didn't previously have the time to get to and which turns back semantic Web 3.0 results of their own. This will further fragment interests and weaken portal pages. In the future the department store is doomed and the boutique will thrive.
I see domain names as those boutiques.
I don't agree. He're why:

**FS** Agree totally.. yet people still type names.. it is the smart ones typing.. start out dumb (engines).. get smarter (type names) .. to be fair.. some dumb type names too.
